Dirtbikes and Pumpkins

This past week I spent quite a bit of time getting the dirtbike up and running for this weekend. You may recall that on our first outing I broke it after only one lap at the track. That was pretty disappointing, but this weekend was great. The bike didn't break and neither did I, although I was very sore and tired afterwards. A photo of me in full MX-er gear:

The motorcycle is very nice...it's very powerful, and it handles very well. I didn't exactly push the performance envelope because I wanted to mostly get a feel for the bike and try how to remember to ride on the dirt...not to mention that I was terrified most of the time. Anyway, I had fun on the tracks and Desmond and Jen had fun watching and playing in the dirt. Here's a photo of Professor D as we were getting ready to leave. He wanted to drive, but he seemed pretty tired and I didn't want him falling asleep at the wheel.

Case in point:

D likes to nap in the car, and this was how our adventure to the pumpkin patch began. When we woke him up to go check out all the stuff there he was still a little groggy. It probably wasn't a good idea to go to one of the mazes almost immediately. He didn't seem to get the point of it all, and was more confused by the spastic kids than the dead ends and wrong turns.

After the maze we hit the haunted house (shed). We got about three steps in and Desmond got scared. The room was dark, there were only strobe lights, and we were on some hillbilly farm with a bunch of weird kids. We got out of there post-haste. But shortly thereafter the hayrack ride to the pumpkin patch left and we were on board. The pumpkin patch was just a bunch of pumpkins laid out among scarecrows and tractors and other harvest/Halloween-themed stuff. Here is Desmond in the midst of it all:

In searching for the right pumpkin, D took to kicking them. I couldn't tell if this was how he judged how ripe they were or if he simply hates them.
He even tried to lift a few but had a hard time. I told him to lift with his legs, but he refused...said they were tired from kickin'.
After we had chosen our pumpkins and were waiting for the hayrack ride back to the main area, they had some goats for the kids to feed. When D realized this he took advantage of his parents being burdened with pumpkins and bolted for the goats. He didn't feed them too much, mostly poked their noses with his finger, and when a finger wouldn't do it, a corn stalk:
The tractor pulled us back to the entrance and we left with our pumpkins. Desmond was none to happy about leaving, but we had fun. Some more photos:

Yeah, we had a good time at the pumpkin patch. The animals were probably D's favorite. I forgot to mention that there were some donkeys in the petting zoo...we fed them grass.

Hope you know that your baby boy is adorable! Yes, it does look like fun--I am hoping to get to one at some point this year! Are you competing with the motorbike racing? Do you win money if you win? Take care guys! Miss and love you! J-Loyce

No, No, No..Pops doesn't race, just ride on the tracks at the club. I've only been out the two times, and I have a long way to go. We were supposed to go to the track this evening (Wed), but it has been storming here almost all day long.

Hey Hoop...I heard you were thinking of buying a Chevy.

Yeah, D likes the Binders. When I first posted that picture I thought it looked like D was doing his best Groaner impression. That is, his angry young man driving a tractor impression. But then I thought, Groaner's starting to get old...and I don't think he'll even drive a tractor without a air conditioned cab anymore. Definitely not one without a cup holder.

And, yeah, I got all the gear...kinda worked it into the purchase of the cycle since the guy I bought it from was getting out of MX. Besides, sometimes the gear is half the fun (and is always most of the cost). Groaner might be interested to know that during our last trip to the track we saw a 250R like the one I stored in his shed for a couple years. It was actually older than mine, but in better shape. Relics.
