The Cast is Off

Wednesday the 23rd was the final day for the cast. Pops and D made the trip to KC to have an X-ray taken and to have the cast taken off. Well, they didn't take the cast all the way off at the doctor's office...they cut it but left it on so that I could remove it when we got home. That way D could be more comfortable on the ride home. And, yeah, so it was pretty scary to pull D out of that thing with no professionals standing by in case something was wrong. D was pretty anxious about the event and is still taking it easy on the leg. He is getting around pretty well, and he can walk a bit. It was maybe even more exciting to see him take his first steps sans cast then it was to see him take his first few steps.

D's grandfather built him a train table for playing with his Thomas the Train toys. I'm sure that gramps didn't build it intending for it to aide in D's physical therapy, but that it does. D can hold himself up with it and walks around it as he plays. Check out the video under this post to see. He has a very pronounced limp that they say will stay with him for six to twelve months, but you can see that he's up and around. He also has a motorcycle that he rides and can push with his feet. This has been a terrific help in getting his legs back in shape too. The motorcycle is D's preferred method of mobility when we're outside. He'll push it around until he's all sweaty, but you can tell that being able to get around makes him very happy.

Emma is having a bit more trouble keeping an eye on her bro now that he's all over the place. Watching D makes E happy. He's very loud and he sometimes startles her, but she loves it and laughs.

So, as you can see, the blog is still public. I've been busy, alright. Give me another week and I'll have it done and everyone will have their invitations. And those who have been putting off e-mailing me have an unexpected grace period, I guess.
