Time Can't Go Fast Enough

We are all very anxious for D to heal, recover and return to this old self. Being in a cast for a kid that runs 100mph all the time is pretty frustrating (for him). Early on he would have a freak-out about every other day because he would reach his wit's end with being immobile and uncomfortable. Lately he is mostly bored and can get pretty low. D and Pops had to drive to KC for the first follow up with the doctor that performed the surgery. The X-ray still looks pretty gnarley, but the doc said that he exhibits the healing that is to be expected at this point. He could probably see a bit of disbelief in my face when he told me that because he went on to say, "You'll just have to trust me on this one," and that D's still on track for six total weeks in the cast. Let's hope so.

E seems to have had a growth spurt. She seems taller and heavier than a week or two ago. She is still very smiley and happy as well as very curious about whatever her bro is doing at any given time.

The fourth was fun. We mooched off a nearby small town for entertainment. We went to their parade in the morning, followed by a car show and free ice cream. The threw oodles of candy...more than I remember ever being thrown at any parade I'd been to. We still have almost all of it left. It's not a good idea to feed sugar to a typically high-strung kid in a cast. Here's D in his wagon watching the parade and guarding his candy.
Here is a photo of E and Mom as they waited for the parade to start...
We also went back to the little town that night to see their fireworks display. It was a lot like I remember the display in Norfolk when I was a kid. Not necessarily an extravagant display, but, you know, big fireworks and a small crowd when compared to the masses that go to the city displays. We got out in a matter of minutes after the display had ended. Before the display D enjoyed watching the smaller fireworks that people were lighting off around town, but when the larger display started D slowly pulled his blanket over his head. He didn't scream or cry, and the blasts didn't seem to even really startle him...he didn't jump, but he didn't like them for some reason. E watched the whole thing.

The remainder of the weekend was really pretty normal. Pops used the times during the day when the rest of the house was napping to go to the track and dig up a massive stump that was in our front lawn. Jen shown here for scale, not because she helped...also, I thought it was a funny picture.
I was very hot that weekend and Pops almost stroked out a couple times as he was working on this darn thing. The next thing to go is the basketball hoop. The post is rusted through and very much an eyesore.

One last bit of news: This blog will be going private again. The Revolution is going underground. We, of course, want to maintain our entire audience of readers...everybody! So, to read a private blog on this site you must be invited by me. It is really very simple, just e-mail me at private.communique@gmail.com to let me know that you are a reader and would like to continue to be. I'll send you an invite when we go private. Also, to gain access to the blog you will need a Google account. For those that don't have one, it is very simple to do. They require a minimal amount of information, and it's really no biggie. Y'all have two weeks to let me know or else...darkness.
