Roughing it...But Close to a ER

Yeah, camping is all fun and games until someone has to get stitches. Four stitches, in fact, on Desmond's chin. Shown here in the emergency room just after getting sewn back together:

And shown here (obviously in better spirits) pointing out the culprit...the edge of the television stand:

And below: How could anyone allow such an obvious hazard?

Well other than that camping was a good time. The weather was somewhat rainy, but we still got to go to the beach for a morning swim. We were lucky that we did because there was rain and drizzle on and off throughout all of the day on Saturday. Of course, the beach was fun for the kids and the dogs, but Lady E was the most excited. She is known to have no fear, and she lived up to her reputation as she took on both the sand and the water.

The morning air, as well as the water, were a somewhat on the chilly side, so the swimming was a bit subdued, but the piling of sand was taken with all seriousness and attention.

As is the custom at this sort of thing, each family sub-unit takes responsibility for a meal or two, so as to spread the cooking workload. This works out well, and we end up with very good food at every meal. The standard is that it be cooked over the campfire, so tends to ensure that none of the food tastes like it does at home...in a good way. Needless to say that there are those who find the meals the best thing about camping. So when the rain would chase us away from the camp fire and under cover...

...there was always the next meal to look forward to.

This year also included a luau. Decorations and the proper attire were provided.

Shortly after the luau the television stand went on it's rampage, and the rain began to fall in earnest. The night was all but over except for those intent on staying up late telling stories. The next day was short but we got a couple more meals in and some more walks, but really it was all about gathering up the supplies and heading out.

Some more random photos for those who are interested:
