...well not really. We rented a cabin in the woods of Platte River State Park last weekend. There was A/C, showers, a refrigerator, etc. Not exactly roughing it...more like sleeping at a different place where there are no street lights. But fun none-the-less. We met the Epley clan there and we all had a couple days of taking in the outdoors. It was a blast. There was good food; every meal was cooked over the campfire. There was swimming, hiking, paddle boats, we climbed the observation towers (you may need to click on the photo below for a larger image to see D)...
...and crutches. Yes, crutches. Uncle Justin was the more severely injured camper with a cast on his leg as his Achilles tendon heals. Pops was the other gimp having brought his crutches, but not using them really at all. I damaged my foot/ankle, yes you guessed it, riding (crashing) the dirtbike. I went to the emergency room the night it happened for X-rays, and luckily it was only sprained. I couldn't walk for about four days, and the first day of the camping trip was the first day that I could walk (hobble) again.
Anyway, we all met up there on Friday, took Saturday by the horns and made the most of Sunday morning before the Epleys broke camp. We stayed the rest of the day Sunday and did some more swimming (Emma really did have fun)...
...had some great, very cheap, soft-serve....
....napped...
...built the last fire for cooking, had some more s'mores...
...and abandoned the bivouac the next morning. Look for some video in the coming days.
Emma's six-month photos were today. Here's a couple...
And of course, D had to get in on the action...

Looks like a lot of fun! That's a really pretty area. Baby Emma's new hairdo is so cute! Desmond you'll have to protect her from all those crazy boys very soon! I knew there was something new coming, as I noticed the pic of "our leader" changed to a very strange photo of Desmond. Looks like he's really up to something now! Love you Guys!
Yeah, the new picture demonstrates how all of our revolutionaries need to be serious and always watch your back.
And yes, we did have fun camping...thanks for the coment J-loyce.
Hooray for campfires, lookout towers, swimming pools, paddle boats, and naps!
Boo for crutches and Bud Light. Couldn't you at least find some Bud Heavy, ol' boy?
Alright,
Grady.
ps. Melissa especially likes the brother/sister photo.
Glad you like the photo...it was pretty spontaneous. The photographer was taking pictures of Emma laying down and Desmond dove in for a little camera time.
Yeah...Bud Light. When you're not mobile enough to help with the packing/loading, you don't get to make any of the big decisions.
Thanks for the videos....great...a future chef and one olympic swimmer! The photos are so cute! Emma and the boa, and the one with both kids.....adorable! Love Dawn's hat! Looks like fun....glad you got to go. I hope that your ankle is better, Matt. The new "leader" photo is so funny!! Love you and miss you....can't believe summer is over. G'Ma Mary
Glad you liked the photos. I made a point to take a few more on this trip...taking photos being one of the few things that I could do. And yes, I can't believe that the summer is over either. That is, the "Summer of Injury" is over...D being laid up for most of it, and Pops being hobbled for the remainder. We did get lots of books read, and plenty of movies watched.
