Jen had to go to Seattle for work this past week and the rest of the fam tagged along for fun. Well, the traveling was not so fun. Cancellations, delays, more cancellations, delays and then, finally, a day late, we were in Washington. During the trip Desmond became quite the sophisticated traveler. Here he passes the time at the airport watching movies.
The afternoon that we got there Grandma Mary made her way into the city to take us down to the pier and treat us to Iver's. Very good, and the waiter was very entertaining for Desmond, even tossing bread crusts on the sill of the window by our table so that the seagulls would come right up close. No pictures though...Pops was exhausted by this time and just keeping track of everything/everyone was all he could do. We had a walk about to get our bearings and plan the coming days, a walk that took us back up the very steep streets that lead down to the pier.
The next day Jen went to training, and the rest of us met at Grandma Mary's for breakfast. We got to see the horses at the barn and eat pancakes. Then we sat outside the barn and played for a while. I thought that this photo was funny with D in the background singing and swinging the watering can. After a bit of visiting we went to the train museum...a couple pics.
And then we walked to lunch...
You may notice that there are few pictures of Lady E. That's because she had a bit of a cold and did a lot of sleeping in her stroller.
Later that day we went for a cruise of Elliot Bay and the locks north of town. The cruise was very nice, very scenic and not as much of a party atmosphere as this photo of D would suggest. He's, for some reason, shirtless eating a push-up. We were in the lock, before the lift, so that's why you can't see anything but concrete and moss out of the window.
The next morning Grandma Mary met us downtown so that we could go to the Children's Museum. D had lots of fun.
'Round noon time we picked up Jen and went back to the barn for a picnic lunch before heading to the horse show. Most of the horses were at the show...the barn was pretty quiet. But on one occasion D managed to find himself in the barn by himself. He must have startled one of the horses because it made a loud whinny. D came running out of the barn crying because the horse had scared him. But he was still excited to go to the horse show.
Notice Emma's kicked-back posture as she watches the ponies.
Archway Equestrian Sports, the stable where Grandma Mary works, had a pretty big presence there. Many horses and events meant everyone was very busy, but we got to meet a bunch of Grandma's friends. After the show all of the barns had prepared food that everyone ate. You could just go visit each barn's little area and grab some of their grub. We ate and visited, and D had so much fun that he had to go sit in the car for a while and spool down a bit before he hurt himself (or someone).
After the show we said goodbye to Grandma Mary and made our way back downtown. The next morning we made a quick trip to the Space Needle before we had to go to the airport. For some reason all of the photos of this outing turned out a bit dark, but...
Then, after a few delays and after nearly missing our connecting flight in Denver, we made it home...back to the treeless flatlands of Kansas, ho hum.
Thanks everyone for making the effort to jump through the hoops in order to view this blog now that it's private. It just seemed wise to limit the readers with a blog like this with children's photos, names, and information about where we live. The idea is to be able to be able to post a few more photos and be a bit more specific about what's going on.

Yep...lots of fun in Seattle. Glad you guys like the photos. I never take enough when we go on trips, but we usually end up with at least a couple keepers.
